• A lower airway resistance speaking valve, the Shikani French Speaking Valve attaches to the standard 15 mm hubs found on plastic and metal tracheostomy tubes. Certain patients may benefit from this unique ball valve design which provides less resistance to airflow at very low flow rates when compared to the membrane valves used on other brands of tracheostomy speaking tubes. The Shikani-French Speaking Valve requires less effort to move air through the valve at low inspiration pressures. Competitive valves are normally in a closed position and require greater inspiratory pressures to initially open the valve and allow airflow. An additional advantage of the Shikani-French Speaking Valve is its low profile, which makes it easy to conceal under clothing.
